COPYRIGHT INQUIRY - AUSTRALIAN LAW REFORM COMMISSION

We are very fortunate to have Professor Jill McKeough giving the Opening Address at the Forum.

Professor McKeough is the Australian Law Reform Commissioner undertaking the current review into Australian Copyright Law.

Importantly, this inquiry is to consider whether there ought to be further exceptions in the Copyright Act to:

  • recognise fair use of copyright material;
  • allow transformative, innovative and collaborative use of copyright materials to create and deliver new products and services of public benefit; and
  • allow appropriate access, use, interaction and production of copyright material online for social, private or domestic purposes.

The Forum provides a wonderful opportunity to those who use digital sampling and remix in their music and art to make a contribution to this crucial public policy debate and possible legislative reform.
